For Week 15 of 2026, I have prepared a new vals tanda. This week, we turn our attention to Alberto Castillo, who left Ricardo Tanturi’s orchestra “Los Indios” in 1943 to begin his solo career. When he set out on his own, Castillo formed his own ensembles and entrusted their musical direction to some of the most talented musicians of the era. His orchestras were carefully shaped to highlight his unmistakable vocal personality while remaining highly appealing to dancers.
