Most of the time, I stick to classic tangos when I DJ at milongas. But I also like to mix things up. Since I run Turkey’s first milonga that focuses on nuevo, electronic, and modern tango, I get to play a lot of contemporary music too.
This week, I’m putting together a contemporary vals tanda. Not your usual pick, right?
Sure, I could have gone with a single modern orchestra for the whole set. That would have been the easy route. Instead, I picked three orchestras I really enjoy and built a set of instrumental valses from each one. Honestly, these are some of my personal favorites to play. The set offers fresh sounds, different but close moods, and is entirely instrumental.
It’s always fun to see how dancers react to something a bit out of the ordinary. Keeps the floor lively. And, sometimes you just have to shake things up.
