As we approach the final weeks of the year, it’s time to celebrate the legendary piano sound of Rodolfo Biagi. Known as Manos brujas (Wizard hands), Biagi’s place in the world of tango is unquestionable. His instrumental tangos, vocal tangos, valses, and milongas—each one is a gem in its own right.
Over a career spanning 1927 to 1966, Biagi recorded 193 pieces. A significant number of these feature the vocals of Jorge Ortiz. Together, Biagi and Ortiz left behind 37 recordings—one milonga, three valses, and 33 tangos—most of which shine beautifully on the dance floor.
Choosing among Biagi’s repertoire is never easy, so this week I’m sharing my personal favorite tanda with you.
