2025-31 Ricardo Tanturi & Enrique Campos |vals| Añoranzas

This week, I’ve put together a tanda of valses for you. All of these are by Ricardo Tanturi, recorded after 1943. Instead of the usual Alberto Castillo, you’ll hear singers like Enrique Campos, Roberto Videla, and Osvaldo Ribó.

A quick fact: Tanturi recorded 53 tracks with Campos alone. Out of those, I’d say 46 are perfect for a milonga. Not bad, right?

From this era, there are only five valses you can really use together in a tanda, one of them instrumental. So, you don’t get a ton of variety in structure, but they all stick to that classic tango-vals feel. In other words, they’re made for dancing.

2025-30 Juan D’Arienzo & Alberto Echagüe |tango| Nada más

This week, I’m going with a classic. Yep, I’m bringing back that Juan D’Arienzo tanda—probably the most-played tanda on YouTube. Maybe it feels like the easy pick, but honestly, it never gets old. I first shared it way back in 2013, and people from all over the world loved it. Now it’s got more than 2.4 million views. Pretty wild, right?

Over the past 12 years, I’ve played this tanda at all kinds of milongas. Big crowds, small gatherings—you name it. Today, I wondered: If I was putting this tanda together for the first time, how would I do it? So, I gave it another listen with fresh ears. Here’s what came out of that.

2025-29 Francisco Canaro & Ernesto Famá |tango| Tormenta

Hey everyone,

Hope you’re having a great summer! I’ve got a new Tanda of the Week for you. This time, it’s a set of tangos by Francisco Canaro with Ernesto Famá from 1939. These tracks are upbeat and full of life. Perfect if you want to keep things fun at your next milonga.

Why pick this tanda?

◦ I know Canaro sometimes gets a bad rap among tango DJs. But honestly, his music is super versatile.

◦ There’s something for every mood.

◦ This particular tanda is lively and playful—just what you need to kick up the energy.

Playlist @Milonga Cometa

As a tango DJ, I rarely self-advertise my playlists. Each night’s ambience and the energy of the dancers are all so unique that they are seldom portable to a future night. A tanda which sounds beautiful on a particular night doesn’t necessarily have the same mojo another night.

However, now and then, I share snippets of the orchestras I love. Today, I’m bending the rule and sharing the playlist I played during the night of Tuesday, April 6, 2023, at Milonga Cometa. Why? Because, first of all, it was one of the enchanted nights at a newly rising milonga when people decided to stay, dance until the very last minute, and simply enjoy the night.

There it is that playlist 🙂

Yeni bir “Haftanın Tandası” | A new “Tanda of the Week”

English translation below.

Merhaba.

Hello. My tango journey, which I started in 2007, has brought me many benefits. The biggest and most important of these has been the tango community, especially my life partner. My next most important gain has been becoming a tango DJ.

While working on sharing my tango DJ journey on social media, I discovered the “Tanda of the Week” practice. For a long time, I created tandas on YouTube and Spotify and also published them on my website, which allowed me to gain broad visibility.

Today, what I consider one of the most beautiful tango tandas, my Juan D’Arienzo / Alberto Echagüe tanda, has reached over 2.4 million views/listens on YouTube, and I believe it currently holds the record in this field.

However, although I have purchased the music I share, I do not own the copyright to it. Therefore, starting with this post, I will be removing my tandas from YouTube and my Spotify playlists, except for a few leading tandas and/or those that are free of copyright issues.

Starting with this post, I will also begin revising my older tandas and re-releasing them on my Patreon page, where you will have the opportunity to support and contribute as well.

I will use this website primarily to announce my tandas first and direct you to my Patreon page, and later on, to share my thoughts and insights about the tango world and DJing.

Lastly, I will continue to prepare this website in two languages, but starting with my next post, I will be prioritizing English, acknowledging the reality that it is the universal language of our time.
Thank you for being here…
